Definitive Tulane Uniform Rankings

Inspired by the AWESOME Mardi Gras hoops unis, I wanted to do a football uniform year in review. It’s Sunday night, it’s laundry time so let’s talk some laundry.

Going to limit this to just combinations worn this year because otherwise we’d be here all night. The limit doesn’t exist. We’ll round out the article with next year’s wishlist. Quick summary below of all combos donned in 2023. Shout out Tulane Uni Tracker on Twitter for this fine guide.

Let’s get into the top 5.

1. All Blues (Tulsa 11/11/2023)

Crisp. This is undoubtedly the best look we trotted out this year. To the people that say the green wave shouldn’t wear blue, I say kick rocks. Tulane’s school colors are olive green and sky blue. In fact, the athletic teams were known simply as the olive and blue before the green wave was introduced as the mascot in 1920. There’s a little history lesson for the haters.

2. Blue White Blue (Memphis 10/13)

Some people will say this look is better than monochromatic blue. It encompasses all the colors, it brought home the first win at the Liberty bowl this century et cetera et cetera. It is an awesome combo and definitely a top tier reveal, but it still takes the number 2 spot for me. I want this look reserved for our biggest road game every year. Let’s make sure to break this out in Norman.

Before you say the Ole Miss look was better, I count these as being more or less the same. White blue white and blue white blue share the number 2 spot. Both are awesome, both should be big game staples in 2024.

3. Green Green White (South Alabama 9/2)

Bet you thought I was going blue again. You bet wrong. For whatever reason, the uni reveal video is impossible to find on Twitter for week 1. We strive to give you more than still images here at Wave After Wave, so I do apologize. I firmly believe we don’t wear green lids enough. Seemingly only with the full green bean which is just too much. This is what our default should be. I prefer it to the green white green that are our standard defaults. They’ll always hold a special place in my heart because of the cotton bowl, but the green jerseys are superior to the whites.

First game of the season every year, give me green lids and green unis. While you’re at it, give me 10 touchdowns against Southeastern.

4. All White Everything (Rice 10/28)

Everybody likes all white. It’s in every single schools repertoire. It looks good on pretty much every team. Nothing too special about the Tulane all whites, but I still like to see em once a year. Don’t think we should break this out for a big game but it makes sense for the Rices or North Texases of the world.

5. Bacon Wave (10/21 Homecoming UNT)

The fans were begging for this one and finally got it. The old school bacon wave helmet transcends uni colors. They could wear these lids with anything and make my top 5. They dawned these throwbacks with our classic Green and White. A touching tribute to Buddy Teevens.

Alright, that’s my top 5 of 2023. Let me know what I missed. Now let’s talk wish list for 2024.

Official WishList

1. Bacon Wave Blue on Blue

Old meets new. The two eras collide to bring in the playoff era.

2. Green Machine Helmets

I don’t care how? Give me the 1964 green machine throwbacks. Fire. White jerseys, green machine helmet blue pants would be A1.

3. Surfing Rip Tide

Would like to see this on a white helmet, green uniform white pants. Homecoming this year reprises the same look, swap bacon for surfs up.

The change to a younger more social media forward coaching staff has me confident we’ll see some new combos this year. We have the best uniforms in football, I expect us to defend that title in 2024.

I’d like to see the green white green more than once a year. It’s our classic look, and my personal favorite.
