Merry Flipmas! National Signing Day Preview

On the eve of National Signing Day, there is a lot to be thankful for Uptown. Tulane has had many former 4 and 5 stars placed under their tree already this holiday season. The Christmas season has come and gone to make way for college football fans favorite holiday, Flipmas. National Signing Day is Christmas in February for college football fans, and it is also a day in which many early commits will flip schools at the last minute. You’ve seen the graphics.

Today’s college football landscape has changed so much but one thing has been true in recruiting forever, it ain’t over until they sign on the dotted line on National Signing Day. Tulane has traditionally been a school to recruit their guys and have an exciting but uneventful recruiting period.

This has all changed since Jon Sumrall has entered the picture. The head man with the playoff plan has wielded the mighty power of NIL and an expanded playoff to make New Orleans a destination for major recruits.

So might this be our chance to celebrate a true Flipmas? In my family, we stuff our stockings with essentials. You can never have enough socks or toiletries. On the gridiron, you can never have enough receivers.

As we saw last season, it is easy to find yourself down a few pass catchers. Watching the offense struggle with Keys, Jha’Quan and Yulkeith on the sidelines was zero fun. Sumrall clearly made this a point of emphasis bringing in not one not two not three, but FOUR receivers this portal period.

Might there be one more? I saw an interesting tweet as I made my rounds in the Twitter streets last night.

Colorado account Chase Cameron noted that 24/7 has crystal balled Zycarl Lewis to Tulane. Zycarl committed to the buffs in June. Coach Prime is known for his recruiting prowess grabbing this 4 star who had offers from Georgia, LSU, Florida State, Michigan and dozens of others.

Naturally, I went to follow Zycarl and see what he’s all about. Here’s 24/7s scouting report. Chunk-play machine with the agility and quickness to make defenders miss in space or tight quarters. Explosive cuts are impressive, but so is the contact balance as he can bounce off would-be tacklers. Dangerous as a return man and took multiple punts and kickoffs to the house during prep career.

First thing you notice on Twitter is his lack of anything Colorado in his bio. I’ll admit it is his cover photo so maybe nothing to see here. The second thing you notice is his most recent two likes. In Two posts, 10 days apart from last month. Let’s take a gander at what those are.

Twitter likes are indicative of absolutely nothing as we know, but Zycarl has only liked 2 things in the year 2024. Make your own deductions from the above, but perhaps it is a merry Flipmas indeed.
